Firm Profile
Architecture continually passes through different phases of philosophies and styles. Overton Design Group, Inc (ODG) approaches its commissions from a total environmental concept in which architectural design is but one of many disciplines which must be used simultaneously to create usable and stimulating structures. We believe that a building not only should function well in all respects but also that the nature of the space enclosure should provide emotional satisfaction to those who visit, work or live within its environment. We hold that a building must advance the architecture of the total surroundings and not destroy the environment around it.
We believe the multidimensional needs of human beings, as the immediate environment influences them, can only be adequately answered by a multi-disciplinary team, each member looking after an aspect of the total environment. Buildings by their nature should display a form that is expressive of their use as well as the era and region in which they are situated.
We develop an ecological architecture that is disciplined by all facets of the human environment. Architecture does not stop with the building perimeter but projects itself inward into man’s life and out onto nature or the city—thereby changing and modifying everything around it. We identify our concept as a systematic overview of architecture, building technology and the behavioral aspects of human environment. ODG provides interior and environmental design for a building that is harmonious with the landscape, is aesthetically pleasing and enhances the corporate image.
Commercial building projects call for an architect who can draw the line between cost and return on investment. ODG’s principal, Lon Overton, is an architect whose expertise spans over 40 years serving the communities in MD, NY, PA, NJ, VA, KY and DC. His innovative approach brings together all phases of architecture, planning, environmental designs and construction management.
He has been one of the leaders in his industry, combining construction management and design/build responsibilities. The result is a fully integrated approach, covering all aspects from initial planning through design to finished project. Mr. Overton founded his firm in 1966 in Annapolis, MD and has been responsible for planning, designing and managing the construction of some of that area’s most distinctive buildings including banks, office buildings, residences, stores, medical facilities, condominium complexes and chain restaurants. Continuing its leadership in these disciplines, ODG has implemented the use of computer-aided design CAD) since the early 1980’s. This innovative software has been a boom not only to those in the construction field but to consumers as well. ODG offers CAD imaging technologies to assist its clients with as little or as much as they need, from visualizing the initial conceptual stages through the various approval processes to the design and construction of the final project
ODG has always prided itself in its diversity of projects. In addition to those listed above our projects include retail shopping centers, renovations to buildings under the purview of historic preservation commissions, multi-family and special population residential complexes, Planned Unit Development projects, projects involving zoning complications and environmental challenges.
